How to use the GHG calculator

According to the provisions of the sustainability directives, agricultural enterprises that produce sustainable biomass are obligated to comply with the requirements of a certification system, and to provide the first processing point (generally farm suppliers or cooperatives) with all relevant traceability and greenhouse gas emissions information that relates to the supplied biomass.

They generally use the “Statement of Voluntary Commitment” as well as their “own, individual” greenhouse gas emissions values.

The statement of voluntary commitment provided by the agricultural enterprise provides the first processing point with all legally required information. The supporting documents can remain with the enterprise and generally do not have to be submitted, but only to be held available for inspection purposes.

Generally, the agricultural enterprise can provide the so-called “standard value” for its biomass products. The enterprise also has the option, however, to improve this value based on its own calculations. This is where the GHG calculator can help. It calculates the CO2 equivalent of its sustainable biomass in accordance with the legal provision and provides purchasing first processing point with a certificate.

How to use the GHG calculator

After all values relevant for the calculation have been entered and calculations have started, a certification is generated, which does not only include the calculated CO₂ equivalent, but also the producer’s master data. It is provided to the first processing point just once a year. The certification complies with the requirements of the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food and is e-mailed to the producer in the form of a pdf-document. The recipient can locally print out the document.
